LinkedIn, How important is social network?

A couple of years ago, when companies wanted to hire new employees, they had to do a background check and credit report on that person. Nowadays, since social media and social networking have become popular, many companies are using social media for hiring purposes. Hiring managers will use social networks to look for potential candidates with specific qualifications. Information such as illegal actions, alcohol consumption, and sexual nature can be found through social networking site such as Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. Surprisingly, grammar mistakes and spelling errors that found on LinkedIn profile can also put a negative impression on potential employers. Based on Jobvite’s survey results, 92 percent of companies use LinkedIn to look for job candidates while 66 percent use Facebook and 54 percent use Twitter (Kasper, 2012).
